My name is James Coleman. I live in Maryland and I have always loved art. When I was in high school it helps to slow my mind and let me bring my creativity out. I would draw using any free time I had. I would take any free time during classes to either draw in class or go to the art room. Since graduation, I have only continued to expand my creativity by using details from games I have played and movies I have watched.
I started playing around with different art styles when I was young. I started with pencil drawings and eventually moved on to pen. I enjoyed pen because it makes your art pop and it has more character. I enjoyed it more than pencil even though with pen it can be very easy to make mistakes. In High School I did some linoleum carvings that I used paint to emboss the image on paper. I received a certificate signed by the House of Congress for my linoleum carving.
I used Blender, a free 3D modeling program for 3 years self taught. My first 3d rendering with no walk-through or video is of a Tauren, in a space marine suit, and a Murloc sitting on top of him with a gun. This image was taken out of Blizzard’s art book from the Starcraft 2 Deluxe edition pack. I know it is not the best but I love seeing my art come to life more than it ever could on paper.
I have enrolled in the Art Institute Online for Media Arts and Design and Animation because I know it will help me learn more. I am 1/3rd of the way through my Bachelors for Game Art Design and Animation. I believe that going to school here will help me get where I want to be in a gaming company, improve my art and expand the mediums that I use to express it and improve life for me and my family. I will push myself to be the best that I can so that I can learn all of the various methods and use them to my advantage in my current work and in the future.
Currently, I am using the skills I learned through self-teaching to create 3-D renderings, website logos and other designs on a freelance basis. As I learn, I will immediately be able to use the information to build my work portfolio, concepts and potential with current clients in ways that I never could without a formal education in art.
My definition of art is what we feel or see inside. It is our soul and expression. I feel that art is one of a couple ways to communicate with people. Music and speech and singing are the other ways of communication our feelings from inside.
